Career as a Music Producer in Pamplona

Guillermo Mutiloa

Born in Pamplona in 1984. Telecommunications Engineer specializing in Image and Sound (Public University of Navarra) and Sound Technician (ESCIVI Andoain). I have always been in contact with music—first as a drummer during my teenage years with bands like Dead Means Nothing, QWER, and Antigua y Barbuda, and later in my twenties as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter with Wilhelm and The Dancing Animals.

Although I remain active in collective projects such as Exnovios, Colectivo Ostatua, and Pr0t0c0lectiv0, I am currently more focused on helping other bands through creative processes, both technically and artistically, in my own studio since 2010. I have always been involved in alternative scenes, so a DIY essence is present in my work.

Production

I feel comfortable in an intermediate space between technical production (without having a strictly engineering mindset) and artistic “curation” (without being overly tied to purely artistic fields). I only take on productions where both parties feel comfortable, usually those that are authentic and genuine, avoiding anything contrived.

Collaborative sessions where one side shares its talent, and the other captures its defining essence to make it sound unique. My goal is to find beauty in what makes us singular, with no comparisons or references as an expectation. I don’t use templates or repeat processes—I approach each recording as a handcrafted piece from scratch, with the dream that the result will be unique and unrepeatable. I believe that nowadays it is very easy to sound technically good and standard—and that’s exactly what I try to avoid.

I work between the digital and the analog worlds with a hybrid TAPE-HARD DISK recording system. I like using out-of-the-box (OTB) elements to explore sonic textures and in-the-box (ITB) features for technical aspects (editing, tuning, dynamics processing, etc.). I also use studio elements randomly, allowing for serendipitous results or sonic accidents, giving them weight in the final outcome if they turn out to be appealing.
